Facial nerve paralysis caused by latent otitis media in children can do?

Otogenic accounted for 10%~16% of facial paralysis in children, in Japan 7%~17%. Most of the causes for acute otitis media caused by antibiotics, myringotomy, treatment, most patients can recover.

Gaosongyilang reported 2 cases of facial paralysis caused by latent otitis media, 1 case of men and women, aged 1 year 3 months. History for acute episode of otitis media on both sides, treated by specialist local symptoms improve, but facial nerve paralysis on the left. After admission, 2 routine incision in the tympanic membrane, see CT check: mastoid cavity and drum indoor soft shadows. EMG check, face muscles on the left does nothing. Conservative treatment, facial nerve paralysis is not improvement; mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty after surgery, see mastoid cavity full of oedema of mucosa and granulation tissue, surgical removal of lesions, row level of facial nerve decompression, tympanic cavity Indwelling Catheter. Postoperative application of antibiotics, steroids, vitamin b?? 12?? Preparations in treating respectively of 40 and 60 days after, symmetrical facial movement, check interference EMG potentials increased.

General prognosis good remembrance of facial paralysis in children than adults, on the grounds that: strong nerve regeneration, the neural tube of the facial nerve ratio smaller; also prompted possible minimal open neural tube.
